DETOUR
We'd been crawling for hours, the light ahead our only guide. I concentrated, imagining the cold beer, soft bed, and workshops.
The scarf wrapped tightly around my nose and mouth did little to filter the smell of blood, shit, or the decaying stench of wasting bodies.
Despite our efforts to carefully crawl over the dead below us. My gloveless hand always found that raw open wound, eye socket, or unidentifiable collection of tissue and fluids that would make my stomach lurch in revolt.
Zombie apocalypse my ass, the road to the 2016 World Horror Convention took a death defying detour!

You made me cringe and then smile, great stuff.
Egad my friend. I hope I can sleep tonight. You're getting this horror genre down a little too well.
Dear YolandaRenee,
Not a pleasant crawl at all. Vivid descriptions.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Oh dear. I second Denise. I hope I can sleep tonight without the lingering visions of eye sockets!
My #FF Story
Nice ending Yolanda :-)
Not a detour I'd fancy!

Whoa-I am awake now! lol Vivid, daymare-I love it~ I have missed you~ Do you really have popcorn at your house all the time-saw this over at the Ninja site. I wish I could visit~
How are you? I did start my book, but it is slow. I am tossing myself into teaching. Yes, my knees are knocking reading your words and the thoughts of public speaking~
Great job, you really did snap me awake, I have only had a few sips of coffee~
You had me at crawling and that photo-yikes!
lol my ocd would sure have a fit with that detour
Cute!
Tay.
Yuk.
Hi Sally, thanks!
Hey Denise, and that description is exactly why I can't watch this stuff on TV. :)
Hi Rochelle, Too vivid. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Vinay, you'll forget by then, have a busy day! :)
Hey Dee Dee, couldn't resist!
Neither would I, thanks Rosey - Loved your contribution!
Hey Ella, I've missed you too! So sorry about the early morning wake-up. But you're teaching? That is so awesome, congratulations. I too cringe at public speaking, but teaching - love it and for some reason doesn't hit me the same way. You're so talented, I know you'll have fun!
Popcorn, always! Stop by anytime. Thanks!
I think I'd just turn around and go home - Bram Stoker Award be damned. LOL
Hi Tay, thanks.
:) I agree Jo, double yuk!
Grossly amusing and amusingly gross.
Either way, cool.
And not anonymous, but:

You write these well, and I enjoy reading them.
Loved the imagery :)
I was just thinking "ick, yucky and scary" and then your great last line :-)
EXCELLLENT!!!!
This was told so vividly in so few words... I felt all the atmosphere and creepiness...
Wow! Excellent! Loved the twist at the end.
Nice twist.
Aw, geez. Didja have to be quite so descriptive? Blech!!!! (Guess that means you did a great job with it, huh?)
Remind me to never go to THAT conference... :)
Thanks ceayr, and no you don't show up as anonymous at all!
Hi Ivy, Thanks, todays is a bit tougher. Thinking cap on! LOL
Hi Donna, LOL - thanks!
Hi Alistair, yes icky and all the rest - but I figured a horror writer would enjoy it!
Hey Michael! Thanks, I just took from the horror I hate. Funny thing I got up Sunday morning to find hubby watching Night of the LIving Dead. "NO, NO, NO!" I said, he turned the channel. Gosh I cannot stomach that story! LOL
Thanks Joy, it just made sense, well, to me. :)
Hi Sandra, thanks!
Hi Susan, sorry - it is a gross one. I would love to attend that conference, but I would not take that detour to do it! :)
Oh my gosh, I remember when we were little, and told to put our thinking caps on and to tie them tightly under our little chins.
That is very realistic cosplay for a convention. I'd prefer the beer and workshop, too. Great story.
