I
remember the night
I
drove straight through
At
two AM
I
fought exhaustion.
So
when a woman
flagged
me down.
I
stopped to assist.
A
ride she wanted.
Then
proceeded to share
how in a hurry she too
drove through the night.
She
spoke of the sorrow her parents
would
forever know.
Pull
over, dear friend.
Don’t
drive to exhaustion.
Arrive
at your destination.
Don’t
end up like me,
cursed to walk this road
a phantom of the night.

“A
house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is a
whispering in distant chambers, an unearthly hand presses the snib of the
window, the latch rises. Ghosts were created when the first man woke in the
night.”

“The
rain pattered dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out,
when, by the glimmer of the half-extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow eye
of the creature open.”

the night—the night of the graves delight, and the warlocks are at their play;
Ye think that without the wild winds shout, but no, it is they—it is they.”
