“Men
say that in this midnight hour, the disembodied have power.”
— William Motherwell
I
remember the night
I
drove straight through
At
two AM
I
fought exhaustion.
So
when a woman
flagged
me down.
I
stopped to assist.
A
ride she wanted.
Then
proceeded to share
how in a hurry she too
drove through the night.
She
spoke of the sorrow her parents
would
forever know.
Pull
over, dear friend.
Don’t
drive to exhaustion.
Arrive
at your destination.
Don’t
end up like me,
cursed to walk this road
a phantom of the night.
YRS
