DAY " 6 "OF THE HAUNTING

Photo by Florian Olivo on Unsplash

I heard you were bored.

so here you go

you want woe

then read my tale

a story of whoa

A WITCH I SOUGHT

One dark and dreary night

all Hallows Eve

I walked through the forest

no sense of the horror

my love had cheated

a lie he repeated

the pain severe

my destination unclear

but in a clearing

I found

a garden of beauty

forget-me-nots, roses

chyrsthamums

and a gargoyle doing guard duty

all kinds of posies

lifted my spirit

and gave me hope

but the effigies

filled me with terror

it was truly a sight

still, beauty held my heart

then I noticed

a cabin with smoke curling

my thoughts were swirling

an abode of mystery

 a witch with  history

her advice, I sought

and then I bought

magic in a  bottle

the sorcerer told me

if true love is your goal,

and your lover's heart is true

only you, he will see

no more will he stray

but if his heart lies

into a hideous gargoyle of stone

will he turn

forever to guard over thee

but never more will he roam.

***

did my story fulfill your wish

did I serve you a delightful dish

are you curious to see

the result of she

then come back tomorrow

for more sorrow

MUAHAHAHAHA!

Photo by Nick Fewings on Unsplash

26 DAYS

Our specialty is the scare

so please beware

we never offer a treat

don't make me repeat

it's not about candy

or whatever's handy

Halloween

and the days before

are all about the scare

terror's our goal

goosebumps galore

scream, scream, scream

that's our dream

prepare now

only 26 days

until our evil ways

give  you the fright

of your life!

DAY "3 " OF THE HAUNTING

Photo by Steven Van Elk on Unsplash

W H I S P E R

Like my electric smile

doesn't it dazzle

a beautiful display

yet it's still not time

for that most favorite day

But please draw near, my dear

whisper your plan

w i s p e r  w i s p e r  w i s p e r

oh, what a thrill

a murder

going even further

an undead dance

where a blood fest

means death

but is walking

the earth hungry

with a blood thirst

really the way

to spend your days?

be careful, my dear

evil wears

a handsome face

with a smile, he'll take

the icing, and the cake!

MUAHAHAHAHA!

Friday Fictioneers - Deadlines

PHOTO PROMPT © Roger Bultot

DEADLINES

Sipping tea, Angela stared out at the dark blue sky. The lights of the city flickered in the distance. Not stars. There were never any stars. Oh, how she longed for the country and the true night sky with the Milky Way trailing a path through the cosmos. Inspiring romance and adventure.

Or did she desire the cloudy night that created a blackness so thick it penetrated the soul? Encouraging evil. Inviting terror. Warping the mind and inciting hellish nightmares.

She smiled, shook off the melancholy, and finished her tea. Dawn was an hour away, and her deadline was noon.

"Highway to Hell"

Soon you'll be on that frightful road to perdition. It's all planned as a new hellish exhibition.

A nasty surprise just for you. Are you ready to experience what's due?

Don't let me spoil the fun. Believe me, this fate you can't outrun.

If I share each shock, you'll look forward, and I want you to continually be checking behind. Each step is clearly defined.

Will our souls ever unite? Never! But I'll be there to witness my desires delight.

At midnight, on Halloween for eternity, you'll pay. A flesh-only demon buffet while I dance and celebrate your horrible fate!

The End of this tragic story...

"I Put A Spell On You"

Satan granted my wish. Who knew, a redhead was his preferred dish.

Was it a rival who cursed me? A friend? No, dear love. It was thee!

Sold me to the soul eater, you lousy no good cheater!

You received your money's worth. The vilest of torture on Earth. Flesh eaten slowly, slice by slice.

Especially wide awake, like stripped steak.

I cursed your name, your very existence, but despite it all. I won the Devil's assistance.

Now the curse is yours. To be replayed forever more.

On repeat, oh, what a treat!

I'll do the deed, my revenge fully decreed.

"Don't Fear the Reaper"

The 7th song for Halloween Party Playlist:

"Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult

"Don't Fear the Reaper"

Ugly in death. No need for breath. Beauty is only skin deep, so true, but there's no reason to weep.

Yet tears we do cry, for our souls did not fly.

But stayed put, tethered to the Earth, and this monster's berth.

Was that the killer's goal to forever imprison our souls?

Beelzebub hear my vow. My soul is yours, my love, for eternity if only one wish you'll endow.

Give me the beast who cursed me, and yours forever, I'll be.

Your every carnal desire I will transpire.

Please, demon King, for you I will more than sing.

There's a "Bad Moon Rising"

I know it's only September, but I'm already excited for the unholy month of haunting, October. So here it is. My ode to the ghosts, goblins, vampires, and witches. Starting today, I'm posting weekly. Each week a new song, because everyone needs a playlist for that Halloween party, and why not a flash to go along with it? After all, it's all about the ghost story, isn't it?

The first song chosen is:

"Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence Clearwater Revival

https://youtu.be/5BmEGm-mraE

THERE'S A "BAD MOON RISING"

September's here, but something disconcerting is occurring in Hell. There's a disturbance among the denizens below.

Even Satan is dancing to a tune we all know.

Celebrating in Hell, the ghosts and goblins are preparing to appear. Unfortunately, the bad news is that it won't just be on Halloween this year.

When the sun goes down. The world will awaken to an unholy sound. All the demons, gargoyles, and ghosts will arise and take flight. Guard your soul, don't mess around!

Lock your doors tight, for evil has arisen, and no one is safe from diablo's intrusion.

Happy early Halloween!

The WEP Challenge

THRILLER

A little more inspiration taken directly from the list of Challenges for 2022

This is the Fear fest Challenge in which we ramp up the spook factor over here, welcoming your creepiest compositions, your most haunting and haunted tales running the gamut of paranormal, speculative, crime, and horror genres. However, as always, there are no rigid rules. Feel free to write to any genre if those mentioned are not your thing.

The prompt is based on Thriller, released in the early '80s,  an unofficial anthem for Halloween and horror. Both singer and song are music industry icons. Thriller has sold 70 million+ copies worldwide and Michael Jackson, known as the King of Pop, is one of the controversial and culturally significant figures of the 20th century. They credited him with some landmark music as well as reinventing complex dance moves like the moonwalk to make it his own signature. Just like the Beatles, MJ was, during his lifetime and remains, more than a decade after his death, one of the bestselling artists of all time. He has left a massive and unique thumbprint on the music/entertainment scene of the late twentieth century.

The prompt has endless possibilities. Take the lyrics to this song - they can inspire myriad flashes - the forty thousand years of funk, the beast about to strike, the thing with forty eyes - the imagery is vivid and specific, and boy! Can they be used to craft a creepy tale or what? Or you could use the video's own storyline to write to. Use that iconic dance with the undead MC morphing into a zombie, to spin a horror flash.

Or maybe not...because hang on...not everyone needs to be a horror/Halloween junkie. Use the demons as a metaphor. Let the dance with the zombies become an inner wrestling bout with some tragic character flaw(s) in your MC. Or weave a girl-boy-movie-night narrative. Or one of a rescue mission where the hero snatches the damsel in distress from the jaws of monsters real or imaginary.  Or...just write to the title 'Thriller' - no end to the tales you could tell. You see? - a million ways to go, a million things to be!

WEP - A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall

 It's that time again.

A new challenge was posted by the gals at the WEP. Write...Edit...Publish

Flash fiction at it's best! Are you game?

Then join the fun!

***

A Hard Rain

She gazes and sighs

at the angry clouds

the surprisingly calm ocean

and the horizon so far

A Hard Rain is Gonna Fall

she questions her motives

is she validated

or just an attention seeker

all she wants

is freedom

independence

a life less hidden

but to achieve that goal

others will suffer

many will shake their heads

and say, what’d you expect

the girl's been off balance

her entire life

never did know

when she had it good

always seeking

never satisfied

I swear

even in death

she'll look for a third option

unsatisfied with Heaven

or Hell…

Your turn, just give it a try.

A poem, a short story, flash fiction, or another artistic expression!

A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall has been described as the ‘most idiosyncratic protest song ever written.’ Bob Dylan, the Nobel Laureate and another 60's icon, wrote, composed and sung it in 1962 when he was only 21. It’s been covered by many artistes including Pete Seeger, Joan Baez and has never really stopped being sung ever since. Dylan has sold  more than 125 million records/albums making him one of the most popular artistes of all time.

The form is modelled on the traditional ballad in the question and answer format, the themes being human suffering – pollution, warfare, isolation, angst. Sixty years after Dylan presented it at a performance at Carnegie Hall, the lyrics are striking in that how relevant they are still, how contemporary their feel and the depth of their appeal. Read more about the song here and here.

This one is wide open to all kinds of interpretations. Because human suffering – it’s as wide, deep and long as life is, of a trillion takes potential.

Use it to zoom in on our current ‘hard rain’ of covid. Chisel out your own pandemic flash from what’s going on around you.

Or weave a tale of some other woe – bleeding hammers, broken tongues, dead oceans, homes in the valley meeting damp, dirty prisons. The lyrics are epic, apocalyptic and offer rich pickings. Set your tale around the climate issues; the refugee crisis; the endless hardships that the hard rains of bullets and bombs, volcanic eruptions, oil spills have brought.

Or bypass all the bleakness and melancholy and simply spin a conversation between a parent and a child on some deep life issue. Or a light-hearted one. A million directions to go. The possibilities are endless.

A freehand is what we give you,  you give the song a listen and see what happens...
