DAY OF THE DEAD

Photo by 🇻🇪 Jose G. Ortega Castro 🇲🇽 on Unsplash

November 1st

October was a month of terror

for all who enjoy being scared

a month prepared

just for you

a plethora of poetry

31 days of

drabbles

and shorts

to prove I could

a goal I set

and achieved

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

to you from me!

But

now it's time to write

for NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH

I've a novel to finish

the 7th in a series

Murder on Mount Fairweather

wish me luck

it's due to be published

next month

so I'll leave you alone

give you a break

from my endless spate

of words that rhyme

I know

you're thinking…

IT'S ABOUT TIME!

😂

DAY "27" OF THE HAUNTING

Another dawn

and we're not gone

we made a pledge

and our word

is our bond!

100 words

for all you nerds

who suffer coulrophobia.

MUAHAHAHAHA!

The Perfect Child

They say you're safe during the day. But I can attest that it's not true. At a carnival when I was two, a sweet-looking clown made me smile. Then quickly disappeared with me in a pouch.

Twenty years later. I'm the clown. Red hair, red nose, and a pouch ready to go. I can make them laugh too. And the perfect child I will have soon.

But Mommy's overly protective, so I follow them home. Distracted and on the phone, her sweet little guy will be mine soon.

One day he'll delight the crowds to find his perfect child.

In case you didn't know

coulrophobia is the fear of clowns.

Not funny

Not cute

But neither is a clown

in an oversized suit

DAY "21" OF THE HAUNTING

Photo by Jen Theodore on Unsplash

You Are Warned!

You see the sign

it's not benign

we gave fair warning

but now you're mourning

yet it was your choice

made with your voice

"I want to be scared!"

that's why our notice fails

you won't listen

you fall for all that glistens

we love to please

always try to appease

as we lead you deeper

we're now your keeper

blood is our nectar

bones our specter

we enslave a body

and embody your soul

so now that you're schooled

still want to meet the ghoul

of course, you do

especially after drinking

our special brew.

drink up

drink up

the hour is near

never fear we'll be here.

MUAHAHAHAHA!

DAY "3 " OF THE HAUNTING

Photo by Steven Van Elk on Unsplash

W H I S P E R

Like my electric smile

doesn't it dazzle

a beautiful display

yet it's still not time

for that most favorite day

But please draw near, my dear

whisper your plan

w i s p e r  w i s p e r  w i s p e r

oh, what a thrill

a murder

going even further

an undead dance

where a blood fest

means death

but is walking

the earth hungry

with a blood thirst

really the way

to spend your days?

be careful, my dear

evil wears

a handsome face

with a smile, he'll take

the icing, and the cake!

MUAHAHAHAHA!

PART OF THE SCENERY

It had always been his dream. Traveling Route 66 was just one of my husband's chosen road trips.

He'd purchased the perfect motor home; it held everything needed for ease during cross-country excursions. Economical, and yet with every creature comfort!

His retirement choice wasn't mine.

I wanted the beach, an endless view, not mindless rutted roads with repeated views of meadows and trees. Or living with strangers and repeated smoke filled nights around campfires listening to the same dull stories and swatting mosquitoes.

Murder will out!

Now I reside here, my ashes trampled under the feet of other Route 66 tourists!
