A Musical Influence

Does music influence your writing.

Is it the music, the words, or the atmosphere it creates?

Josh Groban's album.

was the influence for the
love story in my first novel

MURDER, MADNESS & LOVE.

Two songs:

My Confession

&

When You Say You Love Me

The two songs that influenced my writing of the first book in the Detective Quaid Series.

There were other songs, and they're all mentioned in the novel, but these were the two that were specific to Steven Quaid and Sarah Davis.

Another song that follows the characters through all the novels is

It's a song that Sarah sings when she's troubled, and in future novels, it's a song that foreshadows bad news when ever it's mentioned in the novel.

So do you have a favorite singer, or song that helped make your novel come together?

Sometimes the lyrics sure can speak, I just let them flow. Not sure I've ever used any when writing though.

I have several progressive bands whose songs inspired what I wrote. Dragon on the Sea by Ayreon was the inspiration for my last book.

No, I don't have songs that influence my writing. It's something I never thought of before. I'll have to keep it in mind. Thanks!

My mother loved Josh Groban.

I had a playlist of love songs when writing my 5-book series.

I get a lot of inspiration from music; a song is like a miniature story, you just have to flesh it out.
I also love to listen to wordless music as I'm writing, usually from soundtracks - some classical pieces of music are so good at evoking emotions.

I was never been able to use music to inspire my writing until I did the collaborative writing with Samantha Geary Redstreak. That was so different for me, but I really enjoyed it. Isn't it interesting how we come to writing in such different ways?

The music helped to bring about the right attitude. Set the mood! :)

Cool! I think almost anything can be an inspiration. A statement someone makes, a painting, etc.

As I told Alex, I think almost anything can become an inspiration!

He is a favorite! And love songs do help when writing a love story!

Very true! Thanks, Laura!

I loved that experience too! And yes, it is!

Hi Renee - I wish I was musical and I'm on the edge of the techie aspect ... but perhaps I'll catch up now I'm getting settled here. I prefer to work without music, yet at times I get really hooked in ... but fascinating to read how you've incorporated your music into the books - take care - cheers Hilary

Does music influence what I write? yup, hugely! I've written response poems to Suzanne and El Condor Pasa and other songs I like. Sometimes it's only a certain metre and not the lyrics, sometimes it's the way the lyrics evoke a certain feeling. There are instances where I am not even aware that what I am responding to is a certain song, dawns on me much later :) All art is a response to something.

Have the loveliest day!

Hi Yolanda,

I quite often have the headphones on and play a varied selection of music that reflects the emotion I'm trying to convey in my writing.

Whilst Penny is working on her rather novel novel, she has told me she likes to listen to 3 Dog Night.

Take care, my nice friend.

Gary

I find it funny how a song will influence me. Sometimes inspiring a story! Cheers!

Yolanda Renée said...

Yes, it is. I'm influence by many things too!
