DOPPELGANGER
"We were within
a mile-and-a-half of the service roads when we found it."
The birds circling overhead
caught our attention. We'd hoped to find the hikers before sunset. We never imagined
anything like this.
Eviscerated bodies. The birds and
larger animals had already consumed their eyes and carried off most of their organs.
Two young men who went out for
a day's hike had met a monster.
We called the police and CSI.
Lights lit the scene and a tarp protected the bodies while five men gathered evidence.
At midnight, howls of an animal stopped us cold. The beast attacked. Somehow,
I survived.

I apologize for not being active these
last few weeks. Life has a way of ruining changing plans.
It was a real pain in the ass
chance to practice my flexibility.
At least, that's what I'm telling

Gruesome story. Poor guys I hope they died fast. At least your main character survived. But how could he be responsible for such carnage. Unless, he was the beast himself? Great writing.
Ooh, intriguing end. Is he being blamed because no-one wants to believe in a monster, or is he indeed the monster? If so, maybe he doesn't even realise, he just wakes up sometimes in the woods covered in blood...

Crappy ending for the narrator. Unless as Amanda said, he's actually the beast.

Oh that's good! I love monster stories like this where people are attacked and killed in the woods, etc. I think this could be a great concept for a longer story. :)

Deliciously creepy, as always. Reminds me of Cherie Reich's "Once Upon a Nightmare" collection of creepy stories set in some creepy woods. It'd fit right in. Great job, but I don't foresee a happy ending for the narrator.
Lots of imagery to turn my stomach so early in the morning my friend. Now what sort of a monster is it, I'm thinking...and will the narrator survive long term? Hmmmmm...

I remember an episode of the original CSI where they found some guy's body on a hillside, eaten up by wild animals and stuff. The imagery always set with me, but I could never think of anything to use it in.. this is great!
