HER SMILE

“From her small balcony, the witch watches the world go by.”

You think you're safe, bitch! Not from me. Mark watched as the object of his lust enjoyed coffee on the balcony of her family's house.

She'd met him for coffee, but the date ended suddenly when he told her he thought their children would be exceptionally good looking, after all, they were both perfect specimens.

She'd refused to consider another meeting. He apologized, tried to laugh off his comment, but she wouldn't listen.

Mark fiddled with the guns scope, but soon he had her sighted. She looked right at him and smiled. Mark hesitated.

At that same moment, another driver lost control of his vehicle taking Mark's option from him.

*****

A nurse wiped the spittle from his chin and wheeled him into the sunshine. Paralyzed from the neck down, Mark can only watch, but all he sees is that smile. Her smile haunts his every conscious and unconscious moment.

Excerpt:

Liberty Sawyer glided swiftly through the horde of police
officers, reporters, and on- lookers. Black hair fell from a rigid part in the
middle of her scalp to her hips. Her eyes were a soul-stabbing blue and her
lips were blood-red. She towered over the other officers on the scene, and wore
all black, which set off 6 the pallor of her skin.

Showing her badge to the officer, she slipped under the
crime scene tape. A few paces away, she spotted Detective Corbin talking to his
new partner, a man she knew by name but hadn’t had the privilege of meeting
yet.

“I cannot believe you called her,” the new man was saying
when she came up behind them. “We don’t need a damn psychic!”

“Actually, I’m a witch.” She smiled when Reid jolted and
turned to face her. “I’m
Detective Liberty Sawyer.” She stuck out her hand.

“Detective Reid Sanders,” he grunted back and took her
hand.

The feel of his palm against hers sent tingles of lust
from the tips of her fingers to her shoulder blade, and she knew he felt it too
by the way he jerked his hand back. She winked at him playfully, hoping it
would unnerve him even more.

HOLLOWS AND WITCHES

How far into the hollow would you go?

“After losing her parents in a terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, fifteen-year-old Honoria escapes New York City to Arnn—a farming town with more legends than residents, and a history of witchcraft and secrets best left buried.

Everyone in Arnn knows the story of Witchwood Hollow: if you venture into the whispering forest, the witch will trap your soul among the shadowed trees. In the lure of that perpetual darkness, Honoria finds hope when she should be afraid, and a past of missing children and broken promises. To save the citizens of Arnn from becoming the witch’s next victims, she must find the truth behind the woman’s madness. How deep into Witchwood Hollow does Honoria dare venture?”

ESCAPE FROM WITCHWOOD HOLLOW is Jordan Elizabeth’s first novel. This young adult fantasy, published through Curiosity Quills Press, is now available for purchase at CURIOSITY QUILLS

https://curiosityquills.com/books/escape-witchwood-hollow/

Jordan Elizabeth, formally Jordan Elizabeth Mierek, can’t get enough of the woods, be it splashing through a stream, sitting beneath an ancient oak, or following a path up a hill. Some of those adventures have led to abandoned foundations. Exploring the rocks and crumbling bricks sparked Jordan to imagine who might have lived there before, and that train of thought carried her to a wicked legend and an enchanted hollow.

You can contact Jordan via her website, www.JordanElizabethMierek.com.

Facts about Witchwood Hollow

As told by Honoria

1) Before we get to Witchwood Hollow, let me tell you about Arnn. The first European settlers ventured here around 1670.

2) Arnn began with a fort – it is gone now – and the people spread out into neighboring farms.

3) Arnn became an official town in 1798. I’m not sure what official means. It’s just what the social studies teacher told us in class.

4) Witchwood Hollow consists primarily of maple, oak, apple, and pine trees.

5) When you venture into Witchwood Hollow, the witch traps you.

6) Some adults don’t want to talk about Witchwood Hollow; others are more than happy to. I guess that isn’t really a fact.

7) Local records show that Witchwood Hollow has “consumed” 175 people.

8) Teens come from all over New York State to see how far into the hollow they will go.

9) I, Honoria, have ventured into Witchwood Hollow the farthest.

10) The witch is supposedly gone now. I want to bring her back.
