WEP - Narcissus

Photo by ian dooley on Unsplash

Narcissus

so beautiful

the first

in everything

influential

inviting our stare

sell everything,

we'll buy it all

just say the word

our souls,

are sold

we want

need

all that you do

a new dawn

of only your truth

our passion ignited

love blooms

seeds rooted

all for you

the world implodes

selfies explode

the birth

of voyeurism

the death

of normalcy,

lies are truth

materialism

our new reality,

an influencer,

must approve

before we believe

transact

succeed

Narcissus

for you

we bleed.

Powerful and truthful - as all your poems are.

Sign of the times. 😟 Your poem has captured the current state of the world so well, Yolanda!

Oh good, Amazon needed a new logo. 😉😉🤣.
But for reals, this was a good poem. You have a cool way to work the prompt.

I can see your face as you pen this, Renee. Yeah. You captured our society, full of Narcissistic pollies and movers and shakers. Great work, my friend.

Such a powerful poem, Renee. You're really talented.

Intense, truthful, and REAL... Definitely a sign of our times. You nailed it. So sad for humanity this turmoil that has been created by nature and by man/woman-kind. Let us hope and pray in time we can rediscover our humanity and move forward to a kinder and less selfish way of life.

Love your poem. It says it all. We live in a difficult time.

Thank you, Sue. I don't know how it is that you are always the first, but I admire it!

It's become sickening. I'm very saddened by it. They say these things go in cycles. I really hate this one. :) Thanks Debbie!

LOL, thanks, Denise. An ode to all the commercialism and yes to the K Clan! :)

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks, Natalie, that was sweet!

That would be nice, but too many of the culprits have a hold on the air waves! Thanks, Michael!

I agree, Nancy. A very sad time for too many!

Hi Renee - amazing poem, regrettably so true to today. I've never wanted to follow the crowd and do things a little differently - I can't believe how the world has turned around so much in less than 20 years. Brilliantly written - congratulations.

So true, Yolanda. Your poem captured the world today perfectly.

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks, Hilary. I came too easily! So disappointed, and history will not be kind!

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks, Lee, and I wish so much that it didn't! :)

I hope not, Jamie, but thanks!

So haunting... really reflects the self-centred nature of society as we know it today.

What a powerful poem. So true!

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks, Olga, it came from frustration. :)

Yolanda Renée said...

It does, thanks, Nick!

Your poems always stun me, and this one rings so true. Materialism drives a lot of our culture, and there are plenty of people who make their living by selling an image of themselves to us, one which so many are more than eager to buy.

Kalpana said...

Absolutely! I loved this - 'the world implodes, selfies explode'. You're such a wonderful poet Renee.

Nailed it. The world of social media especially seems to be powered by narcisisism.

Great poem. Someone already quoted my favorite lines, but I'll do it again: "the birth

of voyeurism

the death

of normalcy"

I'm frequently grateful to have not been a teenager in this time of voyeurism, but I'd also not be an adult in it, either.

So hard hitting and so true! Reading your poem felt as if you took the feelings I didn't know how to articulate and put them into words.
Self-obsessed materialism is a pandemic worse than covid. It's very disturbing how selfishness and disregard for others are flaunted as badges of honour now. It bothers me!

This packed a hard punch!
You've captured our modern society so perfectly, where voyeurism is the new normal. Makes a person wonder, what's the next step? Scary.

our new reality,
There is so much power in these words. Thank you Renée - I totally agree, and yes, it is sickening. I can't help but think of the words of the Bishop in Les Miserable - "You sold your soul for silver"!

Quite a bit of reality in that 1 line.

Yolanda Renée said...

Thank you, Laura. Our culture is in trouble, for sure!

Yolanda Renée said...

I doubt that Kalpana, but I do love free from writing. Thank you!

Yolanda Renée said...

Selfies, will never make sense to me. LOL Thank you, Rebecca!

Yolanda Renée said...

No, me either. Thanks, Shannon!

Yolanda Renée said...

I agree, Nila, it bother me too!

Yolanda Renée said...

I hope we come to our senses. Is that too much to hope for? Thanks, Michelle!

Yolanda Renée said...

Most have sold their souls for less. Thanks, Carole!

Some times reality is just too hard to take. Thanks, Bernadette!

Excellent work and ain't it the damn truth! I honestly find myself wanting to do the opposite of whatever social media influencers do. In truth, I find them boring.
