Now down to IWSG business:
Question - What
publishing path are you considering/did you take, and why?
I’ve done them all, first
self-publishing, when it wasn’t COOL! Not a fun time. Then traditional
publishing. Not a fun time either. Buyer beware again!
So now I self-publish through Amazon. They PAY monthly, give accurate statistics and make the process
EASY. There are some drawbacks to distribution, but even those are
surmountable.
Good luck with what you choose! For me, it’s having
the control that makes the difference. Now if I could only get better control
(understanding) of the Marketing angle. I’d have it made. 😊

I hope this time around it's a better experience.
Amazon makes it easy. And of course, now they are changing things again. LOL
Having control over all aspects of your book from creating it to publishing it is very rewarding.
I've tried both, too, and I'm sticking with having my freedom and control. As for marketing, yeah, that's what gets me as well!
Yup, it's the marketing that's hard for me.
Marketing is the devil. Amazon is easy to work with. No complaints here!
Hang in there, lady. You'll get a hold on the marketing aspect. It's interesting that you've tried both processes and now you're back to self-publishing again.
Hope you get everything working with your internet. Wi-Fi problems are a pain.

My daughter was distraught when Simon Schuster discontinued that part of their company. She had one book published, with 2 more in the chute. Now she is with one of the editors who helped her through the first book. Now my daughter has a book being published through this editor who has created a new electronic book publishing.
I wonder if she knows about Amazon? I'll tell her. See you in October. Pop over to read my latest post on "Susan Kane, Writer"!
I think we'd all have it made if we could understand book marketing. Some things will always remain mysteries to us mortals.
Amazon does make it easy to publish, but they have many practices that make things hard for authors as well. *sigh*
Amazon might be huge and a bit scary. But, hey, they sell books.

Having control sure is a win. Pfftt to dumb marketing though.
I hope you have a fun experience this time. That should be part of the process.
I like the control in self-publishing too. Still need to do promotion though. :(
Hi, Renee....
Thanks for your comment and advice. Ugh. So much to think about. I know you've been in the "game" for a while and have tons of experience in many aspects in the publishing/self publishing world... I guess we just have to weight our options and move on from there....
Thinking a lot about you lately.... hope all is well!
An unexpected pleasure to see you posting today Yolanda. I though you were already on hiatus.
All publishing these days seems to come with its drawbacks. The trick is just to survive, I guess.
Have a good month.

I agree with dolorah. Either way there's the marketing aspect of publishing which daunts me. I like to write, it's getting it out there to sell. I do like my small press, I call the shots, and my publisher is acceptable to just about everything and anything.
As with everything it comes down to that old mystery of marketing. I'd much rather have a go-getter agent who is focused on selling what I have to offer and a big publisher backing me with a proven plan of action. It's a dream, but sometimes dreams become reality.
Hope your Amazon relationship continues to be productive for you.

Hi Yolanda - you've been there and done it ... yet as you say there's always more to learn and always more areas to look into, but I'm glad Amazon is working out. Good luck with everything ... and have a good break ... we all need recovery time - take care - cheers Hilary
Hi-ya. I've got faith in you. If anybody can get the hang of the marketing side of things, it's you. (Then you can teach US!) :)
Marketing... yes. That is the problem. Otherwise, give me self-publishing all the time!
Looking forward to the Halloween WEP - and have a nice break.
It's all good. Each experience is about learning, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Thanks, Alex.
I think they're learning as they go too. Hi, Diane, thanks for stopping by!
I like it, very much! Hi, Lee, thanks for visiting.
Me too! We're learning though, and right now, Amazon ads are showing results. Yay!
I do hope you're feeling better, Christine. Thanks for stopping by!
Some day we'll figure it out. LOL Hi, Bish!
I agree, and you do pay the fee! Amazon was a godsend for self-publishing. Not to say they don't have drawbacks, especially when it comes to reviews, but still great to work with on publishing. Thanks, Elizabeth!
Thanks, Pat. I'm working on it. I'll solve the wi-fi situation soon too. Appreciate the visit!
Hi, Susan, I did visit and I even left a comment. Loved the story. I do remember those hot summer days but I don't remember pulling that kind of trick. Poor girl!
Those electronic book publishing houses do take their cut. Just make sure she reads the fine print. But it really does pay to self-publish at least once with Amazon. Learning the ropes of publishing answers so many questions! Good luck!
Most of us mortals don't have the kind of money it takes to put behind the promotion of a book, but still, it can be done and it has been done. Just be prepared, find your comfort level and go for it!
Thanks for the visit Ken, I wish you all success!
So true, Chrys, I was lucky enough to get my first book on Book Bub, but since then nothing but rejection from them. It's a tough fight!
Thanks for stopping by!
Slow and sure wins the race, I hope! :) Thanks, Anna!
It is, but marketing takes all the fun out of it! :) thanks for stopping in Pat!
Releasing The Snowman was the best experience. Stressful, but definitely fun! Thanks, Natalie!
So true, Olga, so true.
I'm just glad you're doing well and I know you'll get there! You have an amazing talent! Thanks for the good thoughts, I'm doing good too, struggling but thrilled with the possibilities! Stay well! My thoughts are with you too!
Hi, Donna!
Yeah, hiatus, inactive, barely there. That's me. :) I hope to turn all that around, but some things can't be hurried. There are always drawbacks, true, learn and move forward, that's the best option! Thanks for stopping in!
You've found a gem Cathrina, congratulations!
Sometimes they do and sometimes we make them happen via another route. Love your song! Thanks for visiting!
I may have taken more than my share of time, but some things can't be rushed. I'm feeling good about the path I've chosen. Thanks, Hilary! Love it when you visit!
My own best cheerleader. I love you for that! Thank you. If I find the secret, I promise, I'll share! Thanks for stopping in and cheering me up!
A big problem, but one that can be surmounted, just be aware it does cost dollars! I can't wait for the Halloween challenge. So much fun, thanks, Jemima!
Hi Renee. Exhausted grandma here. Just sayin' hello. Yes, Amazon is easy, but if you just publish and leave it there - no ads/promos - it sinks to the bottom pretty quick. I'm learning as much as I can about ads etc before I hit PUBLISH. Hope it pays off.
So excited to have you hosing in October. I love Halloween month!
Hope you're taking care of yourself! x
I'm thrilled that you've had some time with that new grandbaby. So exciting, and so much more important! Ads do work, but yes, do your homework. I love it too, and I'm thrilled to be doing it. Right now anticipating Hurricane Florence, oh dear, there's always something! :)
