WHEN LOVE DIES
it’s sudden
earth shattering
soul-sickening
mind-numbing
when love dies
it’s unrepairable
ashes scattered on hurricane winds
never to be whole again
when love dies
light is diminished
color dull
and music, one melancholy note
when love dies
the soul is scarred
life becomes questionable
the future non-existent
when love dies
the heart weakens
trust shatters
but hope eventually fills the void.

Love this.
And am so grateful that there is room in our hearts for hope.
WOW! This is the first I've seen of your poetic side, and it is reeeeeeally good.
Here's to hope!
That little bit of hope can help open the void. Can fill it if the right hope is found.
That was powerful!
Dan good if I do say so myself.
"but hope eventually fills the void." Gret ending line.
Supper Job
Until the heart so scarred from each love's death it to dies.
Wow, Renee, strong stuff indeed! Loved it! Every shattering line. Love the refrain - 'when love dies.' More poetry from you, please! (This is what you were intended to post, not those other ideas you had!.)
Your poem speaks to the hearts of those who are going through a terrible separation either by divorce or death of their loved on. It touches the pain that they experienced.

Hi Yolanda - that is brilliant ... so well done - short, succinct ... yet full of hope after the heart has broken. So well said ... loved it ... love lost is so heart shattering ... cheers Hilary
You're too sweet! Thank you!
So true, Pat. So true!
Thank you, Alex!
Thanks, Ellis, that means a lot coming from you!
LOL, surprised me, I will say that. So few words to say what I really wanted to say in my stories, but couldn't - not successfully! Thanks, Denise!
The pain when love dies is unimaginable, almost indescribable. Thanks, Pat!
Thank you Hilary, it was a journey to get here, but it seems to have worked.
Thanks, Sue, but for some there is no coming back from a broken heart.
I love this, it starts off so dark, with a glimmer of hope at the end (much like when love does die, so you've captured it perfectly!)
A concise piece on the durability of the human heart. Brilliant poem.
Hope wins...
So glad there's hope for a broken heart. Lovely poem. Loved the lines colour dull/and music one melancholy note...so true!
'Ashes scattered on hurricane winds' definitely not able to bring back together. The poem conveys well the loss of hope and depression, sudden and caught unaware, but ends on a hopeful note of the resilient human spirit.
"... hope eventually fills the void." - Yes! Hope is the savior of life. Without hope, we exist, not live.
As others have already stated, I like how it ends with hope. Hope carries us through the darkest of times.
Aww, that's a sad one, but I do love that it ends with a hopeful line!
This is so powerful. Like others, I've never seen the poetic side of you (from IWSG). Your piece is poignant, heartbreaking, so emotional. I admire your ability to convey so much in this form.
Thanks, Laura!
Thanks, Toi!
As it should! Hi, Sandi.
Thanks, Nila. Your comment means the world!
Hi, Deborah, we've all survived a broken heart, but I think some are harder than others to move on from.
Thanks, Olga, so true!
Yes it does, Elizabeth, thanks for stopping in!
Thanks, Deniz. It's a rough journey.
Thanks, Diane. I dabble, although it's always been my favorite form or expression. My grandmother wrote poetry and I made the attempt because of her.
That's a powerful poem, and I think it expresses the feeling well. I haven't done anything with poetry for years, but you remind me that it's a good discipline, expressing the ideas and feelings in a spare kind of language.
The short but succinct lines sound angry, regretful, and hopeful at the same time. I love the style. I can almost hear it being spoken.
Hope does start the healing, but some never get that far. Some get angry, some get revenge, and some feel lost. Well done and I don't think I've read your poetry before either. A nice surprise.
I found you on your wordpress blog Yolanda. It's a very powerful poem, aptly expressing all those hard feelings. Glad you end with hope.
A melancholic poem about the loss of love, with hope that it will find you again.
Great poem with captivating imagery! It's sad and powerful, and I love that it ended on a note of hope. Well done!
I love your poem!
My favourite imagery is the comparison to a monotonous sound... that never-ending sense of sameness... very effective.
Thanks for providing a glimmer of hope at the end. It makes me think of Alexander Pope's line: "Hope springs eternal in the human breast..." as it should!
Hope you are well, Yolanda!
Heart breaking and impactful. Gorgeous poetry.
Moving and powerful. Triggers both tears and nods as I remember what love has done...
Excellent poem.
I really love the image you selected. The wine breaking the glass like that? Amazing picture! And it goes so well with your words. Bravo!
Love and hope are so intrinsically linked, one cannot exist without the other, yet both can cause such pain. Good work on capturing this so succinctly.
Marvelously done. :)
Great words that I could relate to.
Yes, great words.
Great Post!!
