Keep track of where you spend your advertising dollars. It’s easy to send money via PayPal on bogus websites promising the moon. Ask questions and get recommendations from other authors who’ve had positive experiences.
One of the best places to ask for advice is on the IWSG Facebook page.

Great advice. I've never been actually hunting and paying for promotions. Mostly I've used my writing pals to help spread the word through cover reveals, and blog hops. :-)

Great advice! So many services are eager to take our money, but not all are able to give us a return on that investment. Author recommendations are crucial.

Great advice. I'd have to watch not to waste too much money on advertising and promotions.
A little money a lot of times can really add up.
Most certainly keep track or you'll continue to throw money down the same hole.
