PROOF OF EXISTENCE by J LENNI DORNER

 INTRODUCING

Proof of Existence

Book 2 of the Existence series

By J Lenni Dorner

There's a fine line between a nightmare and a horrifying memory. In Proof of Existence, chapter 5, Dragon Hunting, Gwendolyn (Wend) recalls a traumatic event. In the nightmare, she calls out to Xavier. The reader doesn't know how much of this scene happened. What is known is that she actually screams.

Moments later, Xavier appears by her side. They fought before she went to bed, and that argument picks up as soon as she awakens. He once warned her of dangers, a warning she did not heed. She makes an angry joke about danger now, and he responds with sarcasm.

Dragons might not be actually hunted in the Existence series. Both of these characters have played a chat-based fantasy online roleplaying game (MMORPG). Hopefully, you'll enjoy this glimpse into the story.

Proof of Existence

World-ending secrets and threats…

Proof of Existence picks up from Fractions of Existence's cliffhanger, where Gwendolyn is among the hostages of the Eyes in the Shadows, a religious sect that has been trying to free humans from the “prison” of life on Earth for millennia. Rescuing her requires the Existence to expose themselves. As omnipotent beings, their work to protect humanity has been mostly in secret for the last two centuries.

Gwendolyn must remember and embrace what she truly is, though fear and doubt stifle her. She risked everything by acting on her attraction to Xavier, but her religious beliefs stop her from taking the important next step. Life-threatening news has her wanting to go home to see her family. Will they still love and accept her, despite her actions and choices? Or could a secret rip her family apart?

Feeling lonely, tormented, and useless, Existence member Heath goes off the grid. A ransom video from Eyes in the Shadows demands he be traded for the lives of others. Can the Existence find him in time to tell him about the threat? Even if Heath can be reached, would his kind really trade him to potentially save someone else?

The Eyes in the Shadows is set to finally end all human life on Earth forever. Only if the Existence is reunited, with all members at full power, could they stand against them. How many will suffer if the Existence should fail? How much damage could possibly be done in the next twenty years? Proof of Existence, the second book of the Existence mythological urban fantasy series from J Lenni Dorner, is set during the first half of 2006.

KISSED BY AN ANGEL

Today Robyn Campbell, the host of Robyn Campbell's Blog is here today to talk about Kissed by an Angel and what this anthology means to her. Thank you Robyn, please, the floor is yours.

First of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for asking me to do a guest post about the Kissed by an Angel anthology, Yolanda. For those who don’t know about the anthology, my son Christopher was born with a rare brain disorder called Sturge-Weber Syndrome. The money from sales goes to the Sturge-Weber Foundation, which aids in research, supports families, educates, is a physician referral service, supports medical education programs and more. In 2013 the gene that causes Sturge-Weber was discovered. GNAQ! Now we have the opportunity for better treatment options. And maybe even a cure.
Yolanda gave me some ideas about what I should write about, and I chose to talk about my inspiration for the anthology. My son Christopher has had a lot of problems due to this disorder. Seizures, Glaucoma, learning disabilities, and a host of other ugliness. But one thing remains. His outlook. All through his life, people (adults and kids alike) have stared and mentioned to us they had makeup to hide the port-wine mark, or asked me if I was embarrassed to have him out and about. So when he was little, I told him he was kissed by an angel. I said the angel wanted to make sure people could see the specialness that was him. His life is an inspiration to me. I have observed his reactions to people. He has such a gentle spirit. I cannot be mad or sad and look in his eyes because I know I will smile and laugh and feel warm inside. He’s my light.
His sweet face inspired the other authors in the anthology. They added that to the blurb about Christopher being their inspiration.
Sturge-Weber causes seizures, stroke, blindness, paralysis, glaucoma, and blindness. Christopher’s case is rare in that the port-wine mark covers 90 percent of his body. So it’s over his major organs, heart, kidneys, lungs and liver. Anywhere that mark is can be affected. I  used to worry constantly about all of this, but now I take it one day at a time, one foot in front of the other. I came to realize some things are out of my control. I had to let God have this, or I would have never made it through the tough times. This past summer and fall we went through some scary testing with Christopher. They thought he had an aneurysm in his brain. It was a mistake. You cannot believe the relief we felt after they told us the great news.
Christopher’s  sister has an illustration for my story. So that was a family affair. My story is true. It’s about when Christopher was going for his black belt and having a lot of seizures. He used to have many, many in a day’s time. Sometimes, close to 80. This did damage his brain.
I hope everyone will buy the anthology. It will be in print and ebook. It launches this coming week. The other authors are (in alphabetical order) Yvette Carol, Catherine Johnson, Lynn Kelley, Vivian Kirkfield, Ellen Leventhal, Suzy Levinson, Hope Lim, Theresa Milstein, Cheryl Secomb and my buddy (13-year-old) Erik Weibel. Erik is a fabulous writer. I love him dearly. Of course, ALL these authors are dear to mine and my family’s heart. Christopher and Erik are buddies. J Yvette Carol did the cover art, Lynn Kelley the graphic design and Mikey Brooks the interior design.
Thank you, my friend, for inviting me over. You are beautiful. Inside and out.

Sterling Towne decided to take a last minute vacation to a sunny paradise to cheer herself up after a divorce. When the airline misplaces her luggage, she thinks it's just a typical airline snafu until she gets her luggage back only to find out it’s not hers. Rather the suitcase belongs to someone who thought it a good idea to transport a gold Buddha statue via commercial airlines.

Sterling turns the statue into hotel security for safe keeping but then her room is ransacked, and she’s sure there was someone following her in town. Does the owner of the statue think she still has it? But if so, why not just ask? She’s getting nervous, and even her new friend Steve thinks she might be in danger.

Is she? Or is her imagination just working over time?

Meet Laina Turner

As a child Laina thought she would either be a truck driver (thanks to Jerry Reed in Smokey and the Bandit) or work at Taco Bell (her favorite restaurant as a child). As she grew older she realized her talents lay in academics and business and for the last several years has been a business consultant and college professor where she uses the analytical side of her brain and not the side that makes up stories.

Through all her career choices she has continued to have a passion for writing. This stemmed from childhood whereas an only child she developed a vivid imagination spending most of her time making things up and thinking the Incredible Hulk lived in her closet.

Proud of her vast experiences in life from barrel racing to being on the dance team for a semi pro basketball team to being a mom of 2 amazing kids, she tells her family and friends that no one is safe from their escapades slipping in to her books.

Taking the plunge to write books that she actually lets people read in 2010, she has worked her way up to having 5 fans (maybe 6 now). Her blog, The Art Of Living Fabulously, was launched to share the daily fun in the life of a Real Housewife of the Midwest along with the musing of other fabulous ladies.

GALAXY NOMADS

Today I welcome Karen Elizabeth Brown and her rescent release Galaxy Nomads - Chronicles of the MacKenzie Clan, she's agreed to answer a few questions.

1. Tell us about a favorite character from a book.

One of my favorite characters from Galaxy Nomads is a mystic named Hestia. She is kind of like a mother to all the characters, who is fascinating, but with wisdom and foreknowledge. She mentors the protagonists throughout the book and is that steady character in the background. I created her with my own mother in mind. If my mother was here today, I’d tell her that this character was made as a tribute to her.

2. Where do you dream of traveling to and why?

I dream of making a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Since I live in Southern Oregon, it will be a major undertaking. I’m fascinated by the imagination that went into making the creation of the parks. I’ve been able to watch you-tubes of many of the areas and some on how they dreamed up their ideas. The Animal Kingdom is especially drawing to me. They created it like a savannah for the animals and one ride takes you through a number of areas that take you away from Florida and into the African lands. It’s that kind of imagination that tickles my own brain when I want to write about other people and places in outer space.

3. I hope you get there soon, but you have quite the imagination, does travel play into the writing of your books?

Absolutely! I love to have my characters explore new places and get lost in other times. My own experience with traveling as a young person probably has much to do with it. My parents would take us camping on the weekends and on holidays. They would take us to the desert or the beach, where we would put up our own tents and wander the area. I also traveled to Europe and Japan which gave me insights into different cultures and landscapes.

4. How exciting Europe and Japan, congratulations. Tell us about your next release.

I’m presently working on a sequel to Galaxy Nomads which I’m calling Gemini: Chronicles of the MacKenzie Clan. It’s about a pair of twins that have the predisposition of getting into trouble. They’re actually good seventeen year olds, but happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Their pranks catch up with them and they are faced with the antagonist’s wrath. I won’t tell you how it ends; sorry, no spoilers. However, it won’t be out until 2016.

5. Has someone helped or mentored you in your writing career?

Aside from teachers and critique partners, the person who has helped me the most (as a mentor) has been my sister, Retta Stephenson. Actually, she is an accomplished artist and did the cover for Galaxy Nomads. But she has the ability to speak her mind to me, good or bad, which keeps me growing as an author. I appreciate her feedback, which she does regularly, and it helps me see myself from another’s perspective. Thanks, sis.

6. Teachers are a wonderful influencee, but sister's are awesome! Are you a plotter or Pantser? Why?

My first attempts at writing were as a pantser. I just sat down and started writing. They were terrible! And one was for an inclusion in an anthology. The editor sent it back covered in red, suggesting I re-think my story. It was then that I started outlining my stories. Since then, I find that if I outline first, I have an idea of where I’m going and why. It makes writing the rest of the story much easier.

7. A manuscript covered in red is very familiar, and a good reason to rethink your approach, congratulations. Do you use a pen name? How did you come up with it?

I do use a pen name. Actually, it’s my maiden name. I decided to use it since I’ve been married twice and I didn’t want any confusion between names and my books. I’ve heard that some authors have more than one pen name according to the genre they’re writing in, but I’ll stick with the one.

8. I think it's a great name and your reasoning is sound. Do you listen to music while writing? If so, what?

I love to listen to one particular album by Future World Music called A Hero Will Rise. The music is inspiring and has all kinds of moods in the music. It helps me create different worlds and scenes. It also obliterates the background noises that distract me while I’m writing.

9. Music does influence creativity, I'll check out A Hero Will Rise How do you develop your plots and your characters? Do you use any set formula?

My plots are usually developed while I’m writing my outline. Sometimes I can get stumped and it takes me days to figure them out. My characters are developed along with the outline also, but I use a character interview to help flesh them out. This is a long set of questions that I answer about each character; physical, emotional and psychological aspects of their character. After I’m done, not all the information may go into the book, but I’ve got a good grip on the character. In my next book, I want to add more in the book so the characters are deeper and the reader gets to know the characters better.

10. The formula changes as the story and characters change, you seem to have it down! As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you pursue it or follow your heart/dreams?

I wanted to be a musician when I was a child. I even traveled to Europe with an orchestra as a teenager. I went to college and began studying music diligently, practicing at least eight hours a day on my viola. I won a scholarship to study at USC-Los Angeles and even played for the famed Yascha Heifitz, who gave me a critique on my playing. But, I fell in love, got married and had three beautiful children. I continued to play on the side, but discovered writing while I was at home. I then went back to school, studying to be a registered nurse, so I could have a good job. I continued to write in my journals, but it wasn’t until I retired that I went back to school and studied writing formally. Now I enjoy it fully and spend my time at the keyboard creating unique characters and worlds.

Thanks, Karen, appreciate your sharing so much with us. We all love learning about the talent behind the masterpiece. Now onto to your release...

Meet Karen Elizabeth Brown:

My passion for writing is what fills my entire life with exhilarating inspiration. I spend my days writing, doing research, and studying about the characters of my stories. Having done some traveling in my earlier years to Europe and Japan, I find those experiences have helped color my stories with a variety of ideas for the characters and places.

When I'm not writing, I enjoy music and reading, especially fantasy and sci-fi. Born in Southern California, I migrated to Southern Oregon in 1974 where I now reside in the Rogue Valley with my family and friends.

What about you - who was your biggest influence?

DYSUS DREAMER

I am thrilled to be part of J. A. Garland's  release of her paranormal romance DYSUS DREAMER!

Synopsis:
Demon warrior, Slade Aesus, is determined to destroy the werewolves controlling his cousin. But a beautiful elf, consumed by her own vengeance, finds the wolves first. Botching her assassination attempt, Annwyn has the most powerful Packs in the world biting at her heels.  Both fiercely independent, can the two join forces long enough to fulfill their missions and stay alive?

Excerpt from Dysus Dreamer by J.A. Garland:

A solid assassination operation takes one part opportunity, two parts discipline, and three parts disposition. Having two out of three this chilly Seattle evening, Slade considered himself in abundance of good fortune.

Parked in front of a solitary office building, in the zone clearly marked “No Parking,” Slade cleared his mind of distractions consisting of the little here and there that could creep in and throw him off, just a hair, but enough to jeopardize his mission. Satisfied, he slid out of the rental car and re-tucked a stylish black golf shirt monogrammed with “Constantine Vineyards” into a pair of crisp, steel gray slacks. In this particular scenario, image was crucial.

Tonight, the element discipline presented itself by his waiting for the precise moment to strike. He made a living analyzing people and their habits, so he knew his targets relaxed around the holidays and were less likely to see the danger lurking behind his smiling façade. The current festivity du jour was Christmas, and coupled with his gift, destined Slade a popular man. I'm counting on it.

He moved around to the trunk, where he heaved free a slatted, wooden case. It smelled of musky oak. The peaceful scent hinted at candlelit dinners shared with a long time lover. His jaw clenched. Not in my past and not in my future.

Slade lugged his precious cargo toward the sprawling metal office building. Immense, the structure stabbed farther into the heavens than any other in the area, yet fell short. Just like my target. Outwardly, Joe Larsen appeared a dedicated family man, a real pillar of the community whose flourishing internet and telecommunications business, ProCom, employed hundreds. In reality, the werewolf belonged to the Dirty Dozen, a group of the twelve most ruthless wolf Packs roaming the earth.

How ironic. I was once your target. A year ago, the Dozen kidnapped his cousin Amber, a half-demon, half-human. Able to keep a shifter from shifting, Amber's ability proved irresistible, since more times than not, the Dozen's meetings devolved into an unproductive, fur-flying brawl. We saved Amber, but left behind some unfinished business. Starting with Larsen, the wolves would learn a lesson...a demon’s memory rivals the most scorned woman, and paybacks were indeed a bitch.
