BRAISED HEART

Introduced to the The Friday Fictioneers. By Alistair Phillips I found myself drawn into another flash fiction group.
This one is hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields . All based off a photo contributed by Raina Ng. It is under copyright.
In 100 words or less write about the picture provided. You can read this week’s stories by clicking on the blue Link.

This could become a bad habit, but flash fiction challenges are just too much fun! No excuses, I wrote what I saw, and this picture spoke to me of Braised Heart.

BRAISED HEART
Donna stood back and admired the gleaming counters and sparkling floor. The aroma of baking bread and braised heart had replaced the smell of blood and bleach.
"Dinner is served," she announced and pulled Clive's two-timing heart from the oven.
Dusty purred and rubbed against her ankles.
"How could anyone think that two timing Hannibal's daughter wouldn't come with a price?"
         Dusty meowed his response.
She laughed. "Of course, maybe if Clive had known?"
Dusty jumped onto the counter, his dark eyes full of light held her gaze.

"You're right; daddy always said it was our little secret."

SINS & WISHES

As usual I'm late, but I just came across this wonderful new flash fiction challenge on Sally's Scribbles, and I was inspired. I do hope you'll join the fun. Here is my entry, and yes, typical for me, murder came to mind. What can I say, my muse is pure evil!

This is a unique flash fiction challenge where we provide you with a new photo each week, and the first sentence of a story. Your challenge is to finish the story using 100-150 words, not including the sentence provided. Don’t forget to use the opening sentence… This challenge runs from Monday to Sunday! Get creative and have fun finishing the story!

Please include the photo with your bit of flash and a link back to this post. Do not forget to click on the blue link to add your link so that others can enjoy your story too! Now let’s have some fun!

SINS & WISHES
“Zeus was not having a good day and he made sure everyone knew it.”
Murder is a sin, but I do think about it. Then again, maybe I think about it too much, at least in regards to you. King of the castle, man of the house, ruler of his realm, you do strut your stuff.

They say our next life holds the reward for the sacrifices we make in this life. I married you, had my eyes wide open, but I can't justify the damage to our children if I left. So, you have no worries; you'll live a long and powerful life.

Still, the number of ways I kill you in my mind grows daily. My only hope is that karma plays a role and for each evil depiction  -  I lose one year of my future. Death will be my final blessing.

BAFFLED

I apologize for the grainy photo, but trying to get pictures of active animals isn't easy. They have a habit of running away before the camera is even eye level. Some day I'll have them on webcam, so you can enjoy their antics too. There is one on the ground cleaning up the seeds the birds drop; the other is relaxing on the fence - formulating the next attack. He doesn't like eating off the ground.

As some of you know I'm feeding the birds and fighting the squirrels, who love sunflower seeds. You can't blame them, I love sunflower seeds. But they make little piggies of themselves. So far, and after several 'squirrel proof' feeders I have resorted to the 'squirrel baffle' to dissuade them from their ravenous consumption.

The 'baffle' is the large black umbrella like thing above the feeder; it's slippery, but these guys are big and smart. I'm hoping I've got the right distance between the baffle and the food. These guys will hook their tails around the hook at the top and stretch to reach the seeds. It's amazing, so we'll see...

Tomorrow I will know if I've finally beaten them - funny thing is, I'm betting on the squirrels!

I have a nest of cardinals in my pine tree, but he simply will not pose for a picture, I shall continue to try though, he's beautiful!

Oh, and I know another distraction from writing, do you blame me? The weather has been so beautiful!

I also have a new post on my blog Murderous Imaginings - I hope you check it out and become a follower. I've dedicated that blog to research and information on murder for the writer so inclined.

IWSG - SUNSHINE

I don't have an insecurity this week, well, no new insecurity. The usual doubts, fears, and questions with no answers are always there, just easier to ignore when projects, usually not writing related need attention. After all, it is spring, and that garden isn't going to weed itself. I'm blaming, I mean giving credit to the sunshine.

Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you.

Wishing you nothing but sunshine!

but especially Alex J Cavanaugh the creator.

HEAVEN ON EARTH

I wanted to post pictures of various vacation spots, and some of the exciting places we visited during our many vacations, but alas, my computer ate them. No matter, because the ending of that montage would have been the same, a picture of my grandmothers farm. Heaven on earth and filled with memories – the most ideal place on earth to escape the rat race. The poem is recycled from a previous blog, but says it all.

When I was seven
I found heaven
my grandmother's house
I was the city mouse.

With a large bed just for me
not one bed, shared by three
awake each morning
to a bird song melody.

Peace and quiet
and a pancake diet
amid the flowers and the trees
I explored alongside the bees.

A crowing rooster, cows, and chickens
I helped out in the barn and the kitchen
a sewing lesson with needle and thread
soon exhausted, I curled up in my large bed.

Snakes and storms, roses and thorns
homemade ice cream and fresh corn
my escape from a family of seven
Grandma's earthly home was  heaven.
