NOT WRITING, BUT

Hey everyone, I thought I’d post a personal blog today. All about me and what I’ve been doing. Not writing, heaven forbid, writing – what is that? I know, excuses, excuses. Here's what I've been doing instead?

Preparing the data on income and expenses for tax purposes. Always a fun adventure. NOT! But a necessary evil. The good news, 2017 ended up being a positive year for sales – no red ink.

Also, I’ve been working with the authors of Tick Tock: A Stitch In Crime on a marketing plan for the May 1st release. But you can Pre-order NOW!

We've got a Facebook Page: Tick Tock Mystery

And we have a Blog!

Check them out, please.

The WEP also starts the year this February, and it’s not all about Valentines and love. This prompt is called IN TOO DEEP!

How cool is that – does it pique your writing senses? I hope so. Sign-up on Thursday, February 1st and post the week of February 18th.

But we've also got a new guest post by the winner of the last challenge Adura Ojo - She wrote an amazing poem called The End is the Beginning: Why Cinderella Needs a new Song

Please read her words on how a single story creates stereotypes...

And then I’ve been trying to get the Detective Quaid Series set up with the Kindle eBook feature – X-Ray.

What is X-Ray?

X-Ray automatically creates a list of characters and terms in your book, for which you can provide descriptions and expanded information. Readers can view your content while reading your Kindle eBook.
How do I add to my book?

1.      Review an item and add a description.
2.     Click the "Item reviewed" switch to add the character or term to the list of items to be published.
3.     Repeat steps 1 and 2 for as many items as you want. You do not need to add all characters and terms at once.
4.    When you are ready to make your content visible to readers, click the "Review and publish X-Ray" button. You will receive an email when your content is available to readers.

Have you added X-Ray to your books? It’s a job and a half, but I think it can add a lot to the reader's experience. What do you think?

What have you been up to? Writing, I hope!

Got my WEP done. Taxes aren't until next month, but I'm ready for that. X-Ray just seems like a whole lot of extra work, so I've ignored that for the moment.

Never heard of an X-Ray for a book.
Cool you have some sites set up for Tick Tock.

Hi Pat!
Of course you do, :) Guess what, so do I! X-Ray is a whole lot of work!!!

Hi, Alex, X-ray is relatively new. Major work to accomplish if you have several books though!

Hi Yolanda - I must come back to check out Tick Tock's blog ... I've never heard of X-Ray either ... but sounds like you've been busy, learning and writing for others, but including you ... take care and cheers Hilary

Busy, busy, busy. That's our girl!

I dunno about the X-Ray stuff. It sounds a teensy bit intriguing, but I'd also be afraid it'd be a distraction that'd suck interest away from the story. I'll be interested in seeing how it works.

Psst... welcome home!

X-Ray is more effort than I have time for right now.

I love that you've set up both a blog and a Facebook page. Double the reach.

No wonder you're not writing. I think you've taken on many other tasks! Here's to finishing them or getting on top of each one so you can return to writing soon.

I read about x-ray, but I'd be far too lazy to bother. It's like the interactive books that have been on offer through traditional publishers for ages. But daunting to do it yourself, but I'm sure you will. Eventually, it'll add value to the reading of your books.

Some people warn against it as when a reader clicks on the link to something that interests them, they may not bother coming back to your story. I can see that happening.

Looking forward to writing for WEP again. It does seem like yesterday when we did the Christmas challenge, but that seemed to go on forever.

Denise :-)

You've been super busy! No red ink is always good...X-ray sounds terribly complicated, but then I'm not very well versed in kindle reading...

Looking forward to getting back to WEP, gosh it doesn't feel like two months at all! I suppose I'd better start writing now so as to have a post to get back with... :)

Hi, Hilary, been busy and can't wait to work on the WIP. Inspired now!

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks, Susan. It is good to be back, and busy because I'm catching up. I had plans to do all over time, not all at once. But that's what travel does. :)

Hi, Diane, it is a lot of work. I finished one book done, three more to go. But I'm not in any hurry. The Tick Tock team is coming together with a plan!

Yolanda Renée said...

Hi, Lee, thanks for all your help. I am learning as I go -always!

I thought of it as a teaching tool. But I could be fooling myself. I can't believe it's time for the WEP either. Thank goodness that's one writing project I've finished. Thanks for stopping by, I know how busy you've been too!

I like keeping busy, but I like writing better. Need to get back into that groove!
Hi, Nila!

I'm always surprised at the dreadful things I'll do to procrastinate on my writing; grocery shopping, prep-cooking, cleaning... but I haven't stooped to taxes yet. ;-)

X-Ray is new to me. I may do that for complicated stories in the future, like any fantasy I may publish. I'll have to jot that down to remember. Thanks!

Yolanda Renée said...

LOL, I actually enjoy doing taxes. Silly me! Guess you can take the girl out of accounting but not accounting out of the girl. :)

It's a lot of work, but something to think about in the future. I'm hoping it helps with overseas sales? :)
