SPIDERLIGHTS

The following photo is the PHOTO PROMPT. Where does it take you? Tell your story in a hundred words or less.
It seems a small thing to ask, but when posting your story, even if you’re using more than one prompt, please post all prompts to give the reader a sense of connection.

SPIDERLIGHTS
The farming of the planet earth is proving quite simple. Morphing into light fixtures in elaborate, ostentatious buildings gave the troop's ample access and a varied population for consumption. Our greatest success came in buildings known as museums.
Of course, leaving the bodies outside nearby fast food restaurants kept the populace apathetic, as the nourishment this stock consume is far more harmful than we are.

Thank goodness, our need is only the DMT (Dimethyltryptamine, a psychedelic drug) found in the pineal gland.
This mystic drug is what keeps our species light-years ahead of mere humans.

No wonder I avoid museums :D

I will look careful before walking under the chandeliers in the future...

I can never look at light fixtures the same way after reading this . Nicely done.

Eek! Now I'm not going to look at elaborate light fixtures in the same way.

You know, I did research on the pineal gland for one of my WIPs. It's really any interesting part of the brain.

Yolanda, that's wonderful and very M. Night Shyamalan for some reason. I'm not a writer but it makes me think of someone staring up at a chandelier waiting for it to fall on him. Chilling no matter what way you look at it.

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks, Maurice, that means a lot. I received my comeuppance - I found a spider in my shower. The things just creep me out!

Yolanda Renée said...

Hey Chrys, it is isn't it. Known as the third eye. I find it fascinating. A great subject for new storylines!

Yolanda Renée said...

I won't either, believe me! Thanks, ansumani!

Yolanda Renée said...

I will too, there are some odd ones out there. Thanks for stopping by brudberg!

Yolanda Renée said...

They are such fascinating places and ideal for an incursion! Hi, Vinay!

Karen Elizabeth Brown said...

Creepy! Makes me not want to look up! Or especially go to a museum. It's funny, because I stared at that picture before I read your post and I guessed sci-fi, but never what you wrote! Great job!

Pat Hatt said...

I'll wear a hard hat before going under them lol

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks Karen, I didn't think it'd take me there either, until I saw the picture in very small format on my desktop - and spider it was! :)

Yolanda Renée said...

Tricky little creatures, we'll not these guys, but the ones in my house, and yet they still give me the creeps! )

Now I'll feel something creeping on my back each time I pass under one of those. It made me think of a palace at first. Do they feed on dragons too? Maybe they'll loose a fang. Dragon scales are impenetrable, you know. ;) Dragon Hugs!

Yolanda Renée said...

I'm sure dragons are impervious! Hey Father Dragon, nice to see you up and about. Love that dance! Hugs!

It does look like a spider now that you mention it! Very vivid imagination and and a creepy, scary story. I mean it as a compliment! :-)

I hope you keep your imagination on a short leash during your normal working day: there's no telling where you might wake up! ;-)
Cracking piece: well done.

Dear Yolanda,

Imaginative story.

Shalom,

Rochelle

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks Mick, short leash, try none at all. I'm always in trouble! :)

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks Rochelle, love the prompt!

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks Lily, love the name by the way. Taking it as a compliment!

I knew there was a reason I liked spiders so much! ;) Of course they leave people like me alone...

Yolanda Renée said...

Not many people like spiders, you're a lucky one. A spider tried to join me in the shower yesterday, he was uninvited, unwelcome, and paid with his life. :) Thanks Lorna!

I think prompts are a great way to get those creative juices flowing. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog for Alex's post. Have a great weekend!

That's funny, I thought of museums and chandeliers together, too. They must be there even though I don't recall seeing them there. They just go hand-in-hand. This is a juicy story. I'm watching out for all light fixtures now. Well done!

Yolanda Renée said...

Hi Karen, my pleasure, Alex is a great writer and fun post. I do love the challenges, they make me feel as though I've accomplished something. :)

Yolanda Renée said...

I envisioned the older buildings of Paris when I wrote this, don't know why, just did. :) Thanks Amy!

Great story, very imaginative! I guess I'm safe, frequenting neither museums nor fast food joints :-)

liz young said...

Nasty little beggars, but I don't frequent fast food outlets so I assume I'm safe?

Deepa said...

Nice take to the prompt

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks Alistair, you're safe, I'm sure!

Yolanda Renée said...

Nasty is right, but yes, you're safe! Thanks Lizy!

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks Dee Dee!

Aliens disguised as light fittings - who would have imagined? I love the narrator's views on the human diet, as well. A wonderfully whacky response to the prompt.

Yolanda Renée said...

Thanks margirene, wonderfully whacky, is a wonderful compliment!

I like spiders, and we only put outside the really big scary ones. Speaking of scary - get take on the prompt. Now I have an excuse NOT to visit the in-laws as they have lots of chandeliers!
I did put down my name after the comment as, so I'm not really anonymous, I'm Phylor!

Yolanda Renée said...

Hi Phylor, you showed up as phylor too! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Any excuse is a good excuse. :)

Gah Learner said...

Devious! I'll be avoiding chandeliers now, too. Great idea, these aliens.

The psychedelic drug only makes them THINK they are smarter than us. I know where the pesticides are kept (right next to the hamburger patties).

Makes me want to check light fixtures closer from now on. Well done, Yolanda. :D --- Suzanne
