BURIED!

This picture is to demonstrate how I've been feeling since my last post regarding the goals I've set for 2015—buried! So maybe my goals were a bit ambitious, but I was sure I could achieve them when I wrote them down, but a month in, I'm no longer as certain.

Still, it's only a month in so I'm blaming the depressive qualities of winter – cloudy gray skies, a frozen dishwasher pipe, a flood on the kitchen floor, the drip, drip, drip of a leak that just wouldn't quit, and then finding out it's been dripping for months maybe years, and the wooden water soaked beams of the floor need to be replaced. Oh the joys of owning a 100 + house!

But there is no quit because each day the sun shines brighter and longer, I can feel the hope of spring. And while the muse has me working despite everything, I'm not yet working on any of the book goals I listed in January, but on the changes for Murder & Obsession suggested by my editor.

The novel I thought I'd finished is still in rewrite, so please excuse me while I concentrate on perfection. Although, I did enter WOW's winter flash fiction challenge, so that is something I can check off the list.

Oh, and once again I'm joining Mari L. McCarthy's

Starting on March 1st.

Okay, I admit it, I need all the help I can get!

I also recently wrote a post for Mari's blog Create Write Now that discusses how journaling helped me rediscover my muse after a year of illness.

What about you, have you achieved the goals you set? Do you journal? How has it affected your writing?

Goals to me, should be moveable and given room to change and grow, and even sometimes, be let go of, so new ones may form.

Congrats on your WOW flash fiction submission.
My goal of writing a haiku a day is moving along nicely. Whenever I fall off the wagon, then I make it up by writing 2 or 3 to get up to date.
Now I just need to apply this to my WIP... a few sentences a day, that's all I need to write.
Enjoy your weekend!

Ugg to all the snow. But goals can be moved around and still met. Main thing is to meet them

Good luck with the contest.
Just keep plowing forward.

Sounds to me like you're doing a terrific job meeting your goals, so give yourself a break. The older I get, the less hung-up I am about setting formal goals. I did start the year with a determination to consciously make my husband my number one priority, and that's been going beautifully. Not that we weren't happy before, but now we're even happier. When he came home from Vietnam in 1970, we vowed to never take each other for granted. After being married all these years, I think it's even more important to remember that vow.

Happy weekend!

Wow! I think you're doing a great job! Revisions never go as planned, or they never do for me, anyway. If you need to reset a goal, just hit that reset button and move forward. :)
Journaling definitely helps me with my writing and creativity. I've also found dance, walks, and conversations with my family help - although I'm not sure they really love me muttering to them about my problems with my characters. :)

Dear Yolanda,

You will get there and you should be most proud of what you have accomplished. Take it easy and don't put undue pressure on your good self.

Goals broken down into realistic manageable sections works for me. Have a lovely, peaceful weekend, my kind friend. Soon be spring....

Gary :)

I hope WOW likes your submission! Don't get buried in all that metaphoric and real snow Y! Spring is coming for you guys 'up there' while summer is supposed to be ending for us 'down here.' Hmm.

There's nothing wrong with aiming high, and there's nothing wrong with having to move the goalposts either. Don't get too bogged down, remember to tackle one thing at a time. Best of luck!

Hey Gary, gosh I've missed you!
Taking it as easy as I can, but still feeling the pressure. Maybe I should have just hibernated this winter instead of trying to defeat my winter demons. Ha! Defeat nothing, they've won! Spring ---- weather station is talking of more snow! Oh well, old man winter has won agan!
Luv ya!

Hey Denise, wouldn't it be fun to own a home in each zone - always spring or summer somewhere!

Yolanda Renée said...

Totally agree Angeline! Doing just that, thanks for stopping by, know I'm wishing you all the best with your goals!

Isn't that the truth! I love journaling, it's freeing of so many emotions! And walking / hiking the ultimate muse freeing activity! Oh and family never wants to hear my tales of woe - can't really blame them. :)

Maybe you need to move to Southern California. We're all just happy, happy, happy with sunny skies and comfortable temperatures. Me goals? I should, but I haven't officially been setting any. Too busy being all happy and stuff.
